GPU Compatibility Matrix

GPU Compatibility Matrix

Preface

The following GPU Compatibility Matrix has been compiled and created based on internal testing as well as customer and partner feedback. It outlines the minimum recommended specifications of GPUs, with an average model load. Final results can vary depending on model size, complexity and textures. We recommend viewing the below recommendations as a baseline.

Listed Device Models

The following models are currently supported or will be supported in the near future. The GPU Matrix will solely focus on the listed models below. If you want to inquire about support for an unlisted device, please contact our Support Team or your Account Manager.

Models

  1. Augmented Reality (AR)
    1. iPad (all variants)
    2. HoloLens 2
    3. Magic Leap 2
    4. DigiLens
    5. XREAL
  2. Virtual Reality
    1. Meta Quest (2/3/Pro)
    2. VRX
    3. PICO
    4. Apple Vision Pro

GPU Differentiation

While Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) all serve the same purpose; calculation of information, there are major differences in architecture and final purpose. We will be focusing solely on GPUs with a focus on visual rendering and encoding. Here, we find 3 major categories: Industry, Consumer and Server/Virtualization.

Industry

Is essentially a category of GPUs, that focuses on industry use-cases. When compared to their consumer counterparts, these GPUs simply exclude features that may be useful for gaming etc. Industry cards also tend to be slimmer/shorter physically, as they are missing consumer features such as more HDMI/Display Port ports, additional chipsets for noise cancellation etc.

Consumer

Also a very capable category of GPUs, with the exception that missing features, as mentioned above, are included. Some of the drawbacks are size, heat management as well as overall electricity consumption. There are many more differences, however, for the purpose of this matrix, these differentiators will suffice.

Server/Virtualization

Last category focuses on Server or Virtualized GPUs. These are solely used in server infrastructure or cloud implementations. They require additional setup, hardware, licensing as well as management.

Keep in Mind

This is not a definitive list, but more of a guideline. There are many different GPUs out on the market. The above matrix shows the minimum recommended hardware for the application with the correlating XR device. This list will continue to adapt and change over time. Factors include feature updates/changes within Hololight Space as well as new hardware and drivers on the market.
